14K Gold Filled and 14K Gold Plated both sound impressive with the use of 14K but one is far more superior and recommended for gold chains!
Gold Filled is made by using heat and pressure to create a substantial solid bonded layer of karat gold to a metal base, whereas as gold plated is exactly what it sounds like; the application of a thin layer of gold onto a metal surface. This thin plated layer will fade and tarnish over time especially when in regular contact with your skin. However, Gold Filled will not tarnish when worn and stored properly!
Gold Filled minimum layer of karat gold must equal at least 1/20 of the total weight of the item. This makes Gold Filled act very similar to pure gold but can also make it stronger than pure gold, such as 24K, as it’s very soft and malleable.
All of our gold chains and most of our components are made of high quality Gold Filled metal, so your necklace looks and feels similar to pure gold but without the hefty price tag! Gold Filled is also considered hypoallergenic as most individuals can wear without sensitivity and allergic reactions.
